Exostoses

 

These bony outgrowths from the ear canal are formed as a result of the reaction of the external auditory meatus to repeated exposure to cold water.  They are smooth and hard and usually asymptomatic.  They may contribute towards an otitis externa being formed behind them which is difficult to treat.
