Glomus Tympanicum

A glomus tympanicum is a benign tumour of the middle ear. These tumours arise from glomus bodies within the middle ear and are very vascular.  Most present with some hearing loss and a red lesion behind the tympanic membrane.  Sometimes they may fill the middle ear and cause the tympanic membrane to bulge into the canal.

A large glomus tympanicum tumour can be seen arising from the middle ear.
